Why volunteer with HWGA?

  • You get to shop early – before the sale is open to the public! The more you volunteer, the earlier you shop! Read more about the different volunteer opportunities below!

  • You are helping Aldersgate give back to the community.

  • Volunteering is fun! This is an opportunity to meet new people, or make a day of it with a friend! Buddy up to volunteer and shop!

  • You do NOT have to be a consignor to volunteer! Come join us!

About volunteer passes…

The Volunteer Pre-sale pass you earn is good for you ONLY. Volunteer shopping times are determined by the option you choose and the number of shifts you work. This is our “thank you” for the work you do and the time you donate. No actual “Pass” is required. Your name will be on a list at the door at the shopping time for which you qualify.

Volunteer Policies

  • Volunteers who are scheduled to work and fail to show up for their scheduled shift will not be allowed to volunteer with HWGA in the future unless a valid excuse is provided.

  • All volunteers are required to check in for their scheduled shift.

  • As a volunteer, you must check-in 15 minutes BEFORE your shift begins to receive instructions.

  • You may select a 2-hour shift if it suits your schedule, but you must volunteer for 4-hours in order to qualify for the pre-sale.

Volunteer Job Descriptions

Volunteer tasks are very easy. If you have a disability that might prevent you from performing some tasks, please just let us know. We will accommodate.  Snacks and drinks will be provided.

Flier Distributor

Help us get the word out! Sign up online for a “shift.” Once you get an email telling you that the fliers are ready, head to the church to pick them up. You will sign up for a geographical “sector” when you choose your shift. There will be approximately 5-10 pre school/daycare locations assigned to a sector. To simplify things, we will now just have you select a sector from the list as opposed to having people sign up for specific locations.  Click HERE f or a PDF of the sectors. Choose the sector that you will distribute to from the “shifts” in the volunteer listings on your account. If you do not see a location listed, please email us with the name of the business and in which approximate zone it would fall. Office hours are from 10:000 am-3:00 pm, M-TH, and 10:00am-12:00pm on Fridays .

You Name It

If you have a special skill in advertising or PR this is the shift for you. Contact Karen directly and she will arrange for you to assist with a variety of tasks related to promoting the sale. This could include but will not be limited to, flier distribution, blogging, getting sale sponsors, providing a meal, or assisting with our social media campaign. Hours logged will go toward a pre-sale pass!

Set-Up Volunteers

Be prepared for some lifting or volunteer your man to help!  Volunteers will be setting up racks, tables, signage and more to get ready for the sale.  Wear comfortable shoes. The set-up time is:

  • Tuesday, March 3rd 9am-1pm

Inspection Volunteers

Will need some volunteers who have a good eye for spotting stains, tears, missing buttons and missing pieces.  Remember, we want to keep our standards high…would you buy it?   You may also be running things out on the floor to put them on the racks and/or tables, organizing things on the floor and moving furniture/baby items.  Please wear comfortable clothing and shoes.

  • Tuesday, March 3rd- Friday, March 6th
  • Tuesday, March 10th-Thursday, March 12th
  • See Volunteer sign up page for specific times

Public Sale

Volunteers will be running check-out areas, bagging merchandise and assisting shoppers in various needs. Volunteers will also be monitoring the sales floor for items out of place, and sale security. NOTE: Some positions require a lot of standing/walking while others may be completed while sitting.  Please let us know if you have special needs so we may assign a task that works best for you.  Wear comfortable shoes and clothing.

Sorting/Breakdown Volunteers

This is our highest need position.  Volunteers will break down the sale and sort consignor merchandise.  Sorters are responsible for gathering and preparing consignors’ merchandise for pick-up.  Volunteers will also break down the racks, signage and other sale equipment, as well as get things set up for church services the following day.

  • Saturday, March 21st; 3:00pm-7pm
  • Sunday, March 22nd; 2pm-6pm
